His name was Cookie.

He lived in a broken cardboard box in the woods, next to the construction site. Workers would share their lunch with him.

I was 18 when I brought him home; 28 when he left.

A decade may be a long time for him, but it’s always too short for me.

His ears always react when he hears the sound “ki”, and his name comes from this, as if he already knows his name, and I am the one in this universe who is destined to discover this secret.

I once let him step on the wet concrete for fun. Till this day, his footprints are still there in that city, on the ground at that intersection.

They will all leave their precious trail in this world.
